Respond to the following Case Study:

You work for an exceptional healthcare organization (WeCare Hospital) with the following mission, vision, and core values statement. The hospital has 375 beds and serves the surrounding five counties. Core Values Statement: We Care Hospital holds the guiding principles that serve as the foundation for everything we think, say, and do. Our organizational code of conduct and signifies what we stand for. We refuse to be less than what these values represent. Any philosophy, policy, practice, or behavior that is outside of these values is unacceptable and will either be improved or removed.

One of your co-workers, Lisa Palmer, RN, BSN has been an educator for the maternal child/Neonatal Intensive Care units for the past five years. She frequently talks about wanting to start a new nurse residency program for obstetrical nurses. Unfortunately, she has never been encouraged by senior leadership to do anything about actually starting such a program. This month, the Chief Nurse Executive (CNE) has just returned from an annual nursing leadership conference and calls you into her office. She assigns you to work with Lisa to create a proposal for a new nurse residency program in your organization. The problem is the CNE wants you to expand the program to include maternal child, critical care, and Emergency Department nurses.

The CNE has given you two months to complete the proposal and present it at Nursing Leadership Council. Describe the steps you would take to work with Lisa to develop such a plan and make your case for the new nurse residency program: What would be your first steps? How would you suggest aligning the new residency program with the organization’s mission and core values? How will you justify adding the new residency program to include a maternal child, critical care, and Emergency Department nurses? What would you propose as outcome measures to determine the success of the proposed program? How would you make the business case? This should be a succinctly written two page (less than 1000 words) summation. Remember to include your rationale with a minimum of three references and citations.
